Greetings Families! Please check in daily to find assignemnts you can work on from home. The assignments are meant to help you stay on track with your important foundational skills. Please email me if you habe any questions! Stay safe and healthy. See you soon!
Materials: If possible, please gather some materials you have around the house to make materials to use for these activities (directions below). If you don't have the materials, don't worry! You always use a piece of paper and a pencil to complete any activitiy.
ELA materials:
Sight word flash cards (.) If you do not wish to make cards, you can just write the sight words, view them on an ipad, or print them from a computer.
Decoding cards: Use either 2 different colored paper or 2 different colored markers (crayons, colored pencils etc). Write consonants using one color and vowels using another. In class, we have white cards for consonants and yellow for vowels, but please feel free to use whatever colors you like!
Math Materials:
Fact flash cards (you can use pre-made cards if you have them, or make your own from construction paper, looseleaf, note pads etc.)
Dice
Dominoes

6: spell the word out loud

Good morning! Can you believe it's the last day of April?
Let's end the month by being math fact pros! Practice your addition or subtraction facts by playing a card game with a family member. Find a deck of cards. Put down one card, ask a family member to put down one card. Add or subtract the numbers! If you can say the answer in 3 seconds or less, you get to keep the cards. If not, your family member get to hold them! Who ever has the most cards at the end of the game wins!
*You can give the face cards a number value. For example: Jack = 11, Queen= 12, King = 13 and ace = 1.

It's supposed to be a beautiful day! Let's get outside and play a phonice game!
Objective: Practice vowel sounds.
Activities: Play vowel race!
How to play: Go outside with a family member. Use chalk to write the vowels on one end of your driveway or sidewalk. If you don't have chalk, just write the vowels on paper and place the paper on one end of the drive way or sidewalk. Have your family member say a word (it can be a real word or a nonsense word). Once you hear the word, run as fast as you can toward the vowel sound in the word! Keep going until you have found the vowel sound in 10 words. Have fun!
When you get back inside, log on to Raz-kids, read a story, answer the questions and have a sip of water!

Welcome back from the weekend! Hope it was a good one!
Review your sight words by making a sight word parking lot. Write some sight words down on on a sheet of paper(you can find lists on sightwords.com). Draw a long line next to each word. Make it look like a word parking lot! Find a small toy - a car, LOL doll, My Little Pony etc. Have a family member say a word. Find the word on your sheet and "park" your toy on the spot!
Log on to Raz-kids. Read a story and answer the questions. :)

Hi 1st Graders! Hope you are having a good week. Let's review our math facts!
Play an addition/subtraction fact game. Write the digits 0-9 on small pieces of paper (do this twice). Spread out the cards on the floor or a table. Toss a penny, eraser, wrapped piece of candy (whatever you'd like-you get the idea) onto a card. Remember that number and toss again. Add or subtract the two numbers! Use a board or sheet of paper to write the facts that you figured out.

Directions: Review the vowel sounds. Watch "Fun and Fast Short Vowel Phonics Song" Video by Super English Kid on Youtube. Use your letter cards to sound out CVC words. If you do well with the short vowels, add in the magic e! Try your best!

Hi 1st Graders! Hope you are having a good week. Let's review our math facts!
Play an addition/subtraction fact game. Write the digits 0-9 on small pieces of paper (do this twice). Spread out the cards on the floor or a table. Toss a penny, eraser, wrapped piece of candy (whatever you'd like-you get the idea) onto a card. Remember that number and toss again. Add or subtract the two numbers! Use a board or sheet of paper to write the facts that you figured out.

Let's end the month by being math fact pros! Practice your addition or subtraction facts by playing a card game with a family member. Find a deck of cards. Put down one card, ask a family member to put down one card. Add or subtract the numbers! If you can say the answer in 3 seconds or less, you get to keep the cards. If not, your family member get to hold them! Who ever has the most cards at the end of the game wins!
*You can give the face cards a number value. For example: Jack = 11, Queen= 12, King = 13 and ace = 1.

Objective: Practice vowel sounds.
Activities: Play vowel race!
How to play: Go outside with a family member. Use chalk to write the vowels on one end of your driveway or sidewalk. If you don't have chalk, just write the vowels on paper and place the paper on one end of the drive way or sidewalk. Have your family member say a word (it can be a real word or a nonsense word). Once you hear the word, run as fast as you can toward the vowel sound in the word! Keep going until you have found the vowel sound in 10 words. Have fun!
When you get back inside, log on to Raz-kids, read a story, answer the questions and have a sip of water!

Review your sight words by making a sight word parking lot. Write some sight words down on on a sheet of paper(you can find lists on sightwords.com). Draw a long line next to each word. Make it look like a word parking lot! Find a small toy - a car, LOL doll, My Little Pony etc. Have a family member say a word. Find the word on your sheet and "park" your toy on the spot!

Let's work on our sight words. Play a round of sight word bingo! Print out BINGO cards and word list from sightwords.com or make your own. Ask a family member to play along. I bet your family member will be so impressed to see how many words you know!

Good Morning 4th Graders! Hope you had a relaxing week at home with your family!
I miss working with all of you! How have you been doing with your math?
As you know, we will be using a Distance Learning approach while school is closed to the Corona Virus outbreak. The purpose of the assignments posted to this page is to maintain student progress with foundational ELA and Math skills. The activities will be similiar to what we work on during AIS sessions and will follow the same schedule we use in class. Stay healthy and safe. See you soon!

Mrs. Christen LaRocca is the Academic Intervention Services (AIS) teacher at St. Christopher’s School. Mrs. LaRocca presents her students with a warm, positive, and safe learning environment. Mrs. LaRocca uses a variety of strategies to help students have success. She enjoys building a positive rapport with her students and their parents year after year. Mrs. LaRocca truly adores her AIS students! In her free time, Mrs. LaRocca loves to spend time with her family. They love to take day trips to different NYS parks, visit their local library and cheer on the Yankees! Mrs. LaRocca graduated with honors from Molloy College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a concentration in Elementary Education. She earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Adelphi University with distinction. Mrs. LaRocca holds NYS Permanent Certification in Elementary Education and Special Education. Mrs. LaRocca is Orton-Gillingham trained. In addition, she has earned her Basic Theology certificate from the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
